Series 1 Characteristics

The basic size of Nabeshima Dantsu (hereafter Nabeshima rug) is 191cm x 95cm. It will take more than one month to create this rug due to all the handmade woven. There are more than 60 different kinds of traditional patterns from the beauties of nature with 100 different dyed colors which are selected from the many Japanese traditional colors.

By the way, the most popular design of Nabeshima rug is "crab peony".  A peony is praised as “king of hundred flowers” in China and this noble and wealthy Chinese national flower was a suitable one as per orders from the Nabeshima lord at that time.  The design is named “crab peony” because it looks like a crab lifting a peony leaf with both scissors.  This rug is suitable for hot and humid environments because it is woven minutely only with high quality cottons. If you use this rug with good care, it will last more than 100 years.  This rug texture is soft which is different from a thin Persian carpet made with wool and silk because it is thick with long hairs of cotton.
