Japanese idiomatic sentences #4 with sword

There are a lot of idiomatic expressions with the Japanese swords in Japanese conversation but most Japanese even do not know these original meanings these days.

“Motonosayaniosamaru” is translated as “fits in the original pod.” The direct translation is that a sword blade will be back into its original scabbard.  In the online dictionary, there are several way to express this meaning with the following expressions in English.

“Motonosayaniosamaru” can be said a kind of opposite expression of “Soriga awanai.” The Japanese swords used to be straight but they started having unique curve since the middle of Heian period. If a blade’s length, width and curve do not match with a scabbard, of course, a sword cannot be fit back into a scabbard perfectly. So, if curves do not match each other between a sword and a scabbard, a sword will not fit in its original scabbard.

So, it turns out as a meaning after the relationship is estranged and separated from each other, they can meet again and the relationship will resume. For example, it is often used to reconnect with friends who have broken or couples who once divorced.
