Shin Kinoshita runs his shop “Woven Story'' in Saga city as one of the promoters of Nabeshima Dantsu. He is one of the few successors of Nabeshima Dantsu and he has mastered the technique at the workshop where he could inherit the orthodox tradition of Dantsu. He has the passion to present not only traditional but also modern designs.
This time, he can deliver the special designs with a custom made size (70x120cm) rug for the Islamic prayers. This is the first time in 350 years of Nabeshima Dantsu history to export its Japanese historic rugs to Islamic world in this way. Shin Kinoshita prepares the following two custom designs;
1. NABESHIMA Peony Pattern Indigo-II
The rim design of the standard symmetry “Crab Peony” pattern has been changed to the “Wishful” pattern. “如意文” has the auspicious meaning that you can make a success as you wish.
2. Happy Peony
Based on the design of “Crab Peony” with hanaasagi blue color, he adds an asymmetrical arrangement with “幸” kanji character using the ground pattern to express the wish for happiness.
A long time ago, the technology of hand-woven carpets originated from Persia came to Japan through China and it was developed as a unique high class textile rug in Japan and became Dantsu. We are now going to deliver this to the place of Islamic prayers as a kind of reversed inherited history and culture from Japan.
