Training Era part 1
During his training era, he learned a hand weaving for the first two years and a machine weaving for the next eight years which he spent 10 years in total as his training to be a weaver. The veteran weavers are over 50 years old ladies whom he learned a hand weaving from them. Even after he was able to weave to some extent, their work speed was nearly twice as fast and he was also surprised at their concentration on their professional work.
It was a very difficult work mentally and physically with long patience sitting in front of the loom which was sober and monotonous. When he started working, there was another colleague but he quit this job in 6 months.
A weaving machine was developed in the middle of the Showa period (e.g. 1950-60). Since then men have been in charge of this work including the machine maintenance for Dantsu. There is another machine weaving technique remained in Yamagata prefecture for wool material but all weavers are women.
In the 4th year of his training period, one day he suddenly got stuck during my work and he went to hospital which ended up having his hernia surgery for 2 days. It came from a lot of strains on his lower back because of sitting for a long time. He still has some sequelae in his right leg.
